CAGED POET
by Bertie D. Conn

Who art thou, poet in a cage?
Have you at last come of age?
Are you armed with pen and ink?
Is it time now do you think?

All these questions pour from me
Toward the vessel harboring thee;
Into my body, heart and soul,
Please emerge and make me whole.

Fly like a bird and set me free,
That caged no more will I be.
But writing poetry that I hear
From within so loud and clear.

It fills my heart with gilded tone
And yet my pen is leaden stone.
Dear caged poet I ask of thee
Please emerge and set me free.

Gammy
